Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) contribute to employment, household income, and wider participation in economic activities. However, their development remains constrained by limited access to capital, inadequate business management, and restricted market networks. This study examines the convergence between Indonesia’s people-centered economy and Islamic economics in MSME empowerment. A qualitative narrative literature review was conducted using books and scholarly journal articles addressing people-centered economics, Islamic economic principles, cooperatives, and MSME empowerment. The literature was analyzed by comparing the objectives, ethical foundations, institutional arrangements, and practical implications of both perspectives. The findings indicate that they share an emphasis on economic justice, community participation, self-reliance, cooperation, and social welfare. Their complementary application can be developed through cooperatives, Sharia-compliant microfinance, productive zakat and waqf, business mentoring, collective marketing, and digital capacity development. People-centered economics emphasizes participation and a more equitable distribution of economic opportunities, while Islamic economics provides ethical guidance for transactions, financing, and business conduct. This study proposes an integrative framework connecting ethical values, community institutions, and business capacity. Its implementation requires transparent governance, appropriate financial literacy, programs tailored to business needs, and measurable evaluation. Since this study relies on selected literature, the findings represent a conceptual synthesis rather than a direct measurement of empowerment outcomes.
