Pemanfaatan Konten Tiktok Dan Youtube Shorts Berbahasa Arab Dalam Pembelajaran Mahārah Al-Istimā‘ Generasi Z Pada Mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Arab Uin Abdul Muthalib Sangadji Ambon

Abstract

Short-video platforms such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts have changed the way Generation Z accesses information, including Arabic language content. This study aims to describe the patterns of using Arabic-language TikTok and YouTube Shorts content in learning mahārah al-istimā‘ (listening skill), the listening strategies developed by students, its contribution to listening ability, and the supporting and inhibiting factors. A qualitative case study approach was employed. The informants were 12 Arabic Language Education students at UIN Abdul Muthalib Sangadji Ambon selected purposively and two lecturers of listening courses. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. Data trustworthiness was ensured through source and technique triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal four main types of content used: thematic vocabulary, daily conversation, dialect and native-speaker content, and Islamic content. Students developed repeated listening, listening with and without subtitles, and vocabulary note-taking strategies. The use of such content contributed to improved sound and vocabulary recognition, main-idea comprehension, and listening motivation and confidence. The obstacles include algorithm-driven distraction, speech rate and dialect variation, uneven content accuracy, and limited internet data and connectivity. This study recommends the curated integration of short-video content into task-based listening instruction.
