Abstract

Water quality is one of the main factors that determine the success of catfish cultivation, especially in the seed phase which is still vulnerable to environmental changes. This study aims to analyze the effect of water change frequency on the growth of catfish (Clarias sp.). The study used an experimental method with four treatments, namely no water change (P0), water change once per week (P1), twice per week (P2), and three times per week (P3). The observed parameters included an increase in the weight and length of catfish fry. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and followed by the Duncan test at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the frequency of water change had a real effect (p<0.05) on the growth of catfish flies. The P3 treatment produced the best growth with an average weight gain of 9.30 g and an increase in length of 6.20 cm. More frequent water changes are able to maintain water quality, reduce ammonia accumulation, and increase the availability of dissolved oxygen so that the metabolic process and nutrient utilization take place more optimally. Thus, regular water change is one of the effective water quality management strategies to increase the growth of catfish seeds.
