This study aims to describe the instructional media used to improve the reading skills of junior high school (SMP) students, the development of media use over time, and the classification of media based on sensory modality. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using document analysis of articles, journals, theses, and proceedings discussing reading-instruction media for SMP students. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the instructional media used are highly varied, ranging from visual, audio-visual, and interactive digital media to tactile media. Visual media such as digital comics, strip stories, the knowledge wheel, and presentation slides have proven effective in strengthening reading comprehension. Audio-visual media such as Quizizz, Kahoot!, Animaker, and Pear Deck increase students' motivation, participation, and engagement through interactive, multimodal delivery of material. Over time, instructional media show a shift from conventional forms toward more creative and innovative digital media. In addition, tactile media such as Pantule indicate growing attention to the needs of students with special needs in reading instruction. This study concludes that the appropriate and varied use of instructional media contributes significantly to improving SMP students' reading skills, providing a comprehensive map of trends that can serve as a reference for educators and researchers in developing more effective media and strategies.
