Abstract

Peking ducks are one of the meat-producing poultry commodities with high economic value and increasing market demand. The success of Peking duck production is influenced by feed quality, while feed costs are the largest component in poultry farming. The utilization of catfish waste meal as an alternative feed ingredient has the potential to improve ration quality due to its high protein and fat content, as well as reduce production costs. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of utilizing catfish waste meal (Clarias sp.) in the ration on feed consumption, slaughter weight, carcass weight, carcass percentage, and abdominal fat percentage of Peking ducks. Methods: This study used 200 day-old Peking ducks reared for 49 days. The experiment employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications, where each experimental unit consisted of 10 ducks. The treatments were P0 (0% catfish waste meal/control), P1 (7.5%), P2 (10%), P3 (12.5%), and P4 (15%) catfish waste meal in the ration. The observed parameters included feed consumption, slaughter weight, carcass weight, carcass percentage, and abdominal fat percentage. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results: The results showed that the inclusion of catfish waste meal in the ration had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on feed consumption, slaughter weight, carcass weight, and abdominal fat percentage, but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on carcass percentage of Peking ducks. Increasing the level of catfish waste meal up to 15% improved feed consumption, slaughter weight, and carcass weight, but also increased abdominal fat. Conclusion: Catfish waste meal (Clarias sp.) can be utilized as an alternative feed ingredient in Peking duck rations up to a level of 15% because it is able to improve production performance, particularly feed consumption, slaughter weight, and carcass weight, although it also increases abdominal fat.
