Abstract

Mental health has become a crucial issue in the modern era, and literature often functions as a medium that represents the complexity of such psychological experiences. This study aims to analyze the representation of mental health in the main character, Nora Seed, in Matt Haig's novel The Midnight Library. Using a descriptive qualitative approach within the framework of literary psychology and Viktor E. Frankl's Logotherapy, this study examines how depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation are represented through the narrative, and how the search for meaning in life restores the character's psychological condition. The analysis shows that the novel represents mental disorder not merely as a biological pathology but as an existential crisis arising from accumulated regret and hopelessness. The Midnight Library functions as a metaphor for a liminal space and a coping mechanism that allows Nora to explore alternative lives. Through the process of Logotherapy-from existential vacuum and the will to meaning to freedom of will-Nora ultimately realizes that the meaning of life lies in accepting imperfection and having the courage to keep living. In conclusion, the novel offers a humanistic narrative of recovery, emphasizing that finding meaning in suffering is key to mental health intervention.
