Plagiarism

Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Integrated Agriculture and Forest Sciences (NILAFO) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are screened for plagiarism and self-plagiarism. Manuscripts that are found to contain plagiarism will be rejected immediately.

Similarity Check

Before manuscripts are sent to reviewers, all submissions undergo an initial similarity screening conducted by the editorial team using plagiarism detection software.

  • The overall similarity index must be below 25%, excluding references.

  • The similarity score from any single source must not exceed 1%.

Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements will not proceed to the peer-review stage.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the act of presenting another person’s ideas, words, data, or creative work as one’s own without proper permission, citation, or acknowledgment. Plagiarism may occur intentionally or unintentionally and includes, but is not limited to, the following forms:

Literal Copying

Directly copying text word-for-word, in whole or in part, from another source without appropriate citation or acknowledgment.

Substantial Copying

Reproducing significant portions of another author’s work without proper permission or citation. This includes both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the copied content.

Paraphrasing

Rewriting ideas, words, or phrases from a source using different wording without properly citing the original source. This form of plagiarism may be more difficult to detect but is equally unethical.

Forms of Plagiarism Include, but Are Not Limited to:

  • Quoting words, sentences, data, or information from a source without proper citation or acknowledgment.

  • Using ideas, concepts, opinions, or theories from a source without adequate reference.

  • Rewriting or modifying text from a source without clearly citing the original work.

  • Submitting manuscripts that are wholly or partially produced by others as one’s own work.

Prevention

To prevent plagiarism, NILAFO ensures that all published articles comply with the similarity threshold of less than 25%. Plagiarism screening is conducted using Turnitin or equivalent similarity-checking tools.

Sanctions

In cases of confirmed plagiarism, the journal may impose one or more of the following sanctions, depending on the severity of the violation:

  • Formal reprimand

  • Written warning

  • Retraction of the published article

  • Cancellation of publication and removal from the journal record
