Plagiarism
Plagiarism Policy
All submissions to Jurnal Ilmu Bimbingan dan Konseling (BIKOLING) are checked for plagiarism to ensure the integrity of the academic work. Articles found to contain plagiarism or self-plagiarism will be promptly rejected.
Initial Screening
Before being sent for peer review, submissions are checked for similarity by a member of the editorial team using Turnitin. Manuscripts must meet the following criteria:
- The overall similarity score must be below 25% (excluding the bibliography).
- The similarity score from any single source must not exceed 1%.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as presenting another person's ideas or words as your own without proper permission, credit, or acknowledgment. It can take various forms, including:

Literal Copying
- Directly reproducing another author’s work, in part or in full, without proper citation, permission, or acknowledgment.
- This form of plagiarism is detected by comparing the original source with the suspected manuscript.

Substantial Copying
- Reproducing significant portions of another person’s work without citation or acknowledgment.
- Assessment involves both the quantity and importance of the copied material, with emphasis on its intellectual value to the work.

Paraphrasing
- Using ideas, phrases, or concepts from a source and rewriting them in your own words without proper citation or acknowledgment.
- This type of plagiarism can be more challenging to detect but is equally unethical.
Forms of Plagiarism
Examples of plagiarism include, but are not limited to:
- Quoting terms, sentences, data, or information from a source without citing or acknowledging it.
- Rewriting or paraphrasing ideas, opinions, or theories without proper citation.
- Using others’ scientific works as your own without acknowledgment or permission.
- Submitting a manuscript that includes unattributed material from previously published or unpublished works.
Prevention
To uphold the journal's integrity, BIKOLING ensures that no published article exceeds a 25% similarity score. All manuscripts undergo plagiarism screening using Turnitin before publication.
Sanctions
Authors found violating the journal’s plagiarism policy will face the following sanctions, based on the severity of the violation:
- Reprimand – An initial warning to address the issue.
- Warning Letter – A formal notice regarding the plagiarism.
- Revocation of the Article – The article will be removed from the review or publication process.
- Cancellation of Publication – The manuscript will be permanently withdrawn from publication in BIKOLING.
