All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan Biologi dan IPA (MUBIPA) are subject to a plagiarism check prior to the peer-review process. The editorial team will immediately reject any paper found to contain plagiarism or self-plagiarism.

Before being sent to reviewers, all submissions are screened for similarity by a member of the editorial team using Turnitin or a comparable similarity detection tool.
Manuscripts submitted to MUBIPA must have a similarity index below 25% (excluding references), and no single source should contribute more than 1% similarity.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person’s ideas, words, or works as one’s own without proper permission, credit, or acknowledgment, or by failing to cite the source appropriately.

Plagiarism can appear in several forms, including literal copying, substantial copying, or improper paraphrasing. To assess potential plagiarism, the editorial team considers the following categories:

  • Literal Copying:
Directly reproducing another author’s words or text—either in whole or in part—without permission, acknowledgment, or citation. This is typically detected by comparing the submitted manuscript with the original source.

  • Substantial Copying:
Using a significant portion of another person’s work without permission or citation. This includes both quantitative (amount of text) and qualitative (importance or uniqueness of the content) aspects of the copied material.

  • Paraphrasing:
Rewriting another author’s ideas, words, or sentences in new phrasing without proper acknowledgment or citation. Although more difficult to detect, paraphrasing without citation is still considered plagiarism.

Forms of Plagiarism Include, but Are Not Limited To:

  • Copying words, phrases, sentences, data, or information from a source without proper citation or acknowledgment.

  • Quoting terms or sentences from a source without accurately including them in the reference list.

  • Using ideas, opinions, views, or theories from a source without adequate acknowledgment.

  • Rewriting or paraphrasing content derived from another author’s ideas or arguments without proper citation.

  • Submitting a scientific paper written or published by another person as one’s own work.
