The social media platform TikTok has become a space for the evolution of slang among teenagers. This study employs a sociolinguistic approach to describe the variations, functions, and impact of slang usage—found in the content of the TikTok account @Ainay—on adolescent communication patterns. This is a descriptive qualitative study. Data consisting of the creator's speech, captions, and follower comments were collected via screenshots and subsequently analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing using a coding system. The results indicate that (1) slang variations are dominated by code-mixing in four combinations—Indonesian–English, Indonesian–Javanese, Javanese–English, and Indonesian–English–Javanese—as well as the use of abbreviations or acronyms in the comments section; (2) slang serves phatic and humorous or entertaining functions, with communication efficiency acting as a characteristic accompanying both functions; and (3) slang has positive effects, such as the reinforcement of identity, creativity, and social closeness, as well as negative effects, such as the blurring of politeness boundaries and a potential decline in the use of standard language in formal situations.
