This study is motivated by the importance of literacy as a space for integrating ideas and expressing individual existence. Beyond its limited conception as a means of increasing reading interest, literacy can provide opportunities to develop independence, critical thinking, creative action, and conscious responsibility. Two programs that embody literacy practices are Friday Literacy and Reading Corners. Viewed through Driyarkara’s existentialist philosophy and the epistemological dimensions of knowledge, these programs offer opportunities to engage with reading as a meeting point between personal viewpoints and the values and perspectives of others, thereby developing new, comprehensive understanding. This study aims to identify the roles of Friday Literacy and Reading Corners in supporting the fuller realization of students’ existence and the development of knowledge. It also examines the relevance of these programs to facilitating Indonesian language learning at school. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation and interviews. It focuses on the implementation of literacy practices at SMKN 1 Jombang. The findings indicate that the two programs complement one another by providing opportunities for students to connect their ideas with the phenomena and values encountered in reading materials. Students are free to select books and comment on the new insights they gain. Regular literacy practices provide an essential space that every school should offer to cultivate deeper thinking. As students acquire more knowledge, they become better equipped to engage in productive activities and create original work related to their learning tasks.
