Plagiarism
Plagiarism Policy
All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Ilmu Agama Indonesia (JIGAMNA) are subject to plagiarism screening. The editorial board will immediately reject any manuscript found to contain plagiarism or self-plagiarism.
Before the peer review stage, each submission undergoes an initial similarity check by a member of the editorial team. Manuscripts submitted to JIGAMNA must have a similarity index below 25% (excluding the bibliography), and the similarity score for any single source must not exceed 1%.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person’s ideas, words, or works as one’s own without proper acknowledgment or citation. It includes using another author’s intellectual property without permission or adequate credit. Plagiarism can take several forms, including literal copying, substantial copying, or improper paraphrasing.
To determine whether plagiarism has occurred, JIGAMNA uses the following criteria:
1. Literal Copying
This refers to directly copying another author’s work—whether in full or in part—without permission, acknowledgment, or citation. It can be identified by comparing the suspected manuscript with the original source.
2. Substantial Copying
Substantial copying occurs when a significant portion of another person’s work is reproduced without acknowledgment or citation. It may involve both quantity (the amount copied) and quality (the importance of the copied material to the entire work).
3. Paraphrasing
This involves restating ideas, words, or phrases from a source using different wording. It becomes plagiarism when the original source is not properly cited or credited, even if the wording is altered. Paraphrased plagiarism can be more difficult to detect but is equally unethical.
Forms of Plagiarism Include (but Are Not Limited To):
-
Quoting terms, sentences, data, or information from a source without citation or proper acknowledgment.
-
Using ideas, theories, or opinions from a source without crediting the author.
-
Rewriting (paraphrasing) another person’s ideas, words, or sentences without proper acknowledgment.
-
Submitting a manuscript that was written or published by another person as one’s own work.
-
Copying figures, tables, or data from other works without permission or citation.
Prevention
Jurnal Ilmu Agama Indonesia (JIGAMNA) ensures that every article accepted for publication meets strict originality standards.
All manuscripts are screened using Turnitin or equivalent plagiarism-detection software to ensure that the similarity index does not exceed 25% (excluding references).
