Abstract

The dynamic development of the construction industry requires graduates of Vocational High Schools (SMK), particularly those in the Construction and Housing Engineering Program, to possess competencies that align with the needs of the Business and Industrial World (DUDI). One of the efforts to improve students’ work readiness is through the implementation of Industrial Work Practice (PKL) as an industry-based learning activity. This study aims to analyze the suitability of Industrial Work Practice competencies with the needs of the Business and Industrial World in the Construction and Housing Engineering Program at SMK Negeri 1 Sogaeadu. This research employed a quantitative descriptive approach using a survey method. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation involving students, PKL supervising teachers, and industry supervisors. Data analysis was performed using percentage analysis to determine the level of suitability between students’ technical competencies (hard skills) and non-technical competencies (soft skills) with industrial requirements. The results showed that the overall suitability level of PKL competencies was categorized as highly appropriate, with an achievement percentage of 81.5%. Technical competencies obtained an average score of 78.8%, categorized as appropriate, while non-technical competencies achieved an average score of 84.2%, categorized as highly appropriate. These findings indicate that the implementation of PKL has contributed significantly to improving students’ work readiness through strengthening construction skills, implementing industrial work culture, and developing professional attitudes. However, digital construction technology competencies still need to be improved to meet the demands of modern construction industries. This study recommends that schools and industry partners continue to strengthen collaboration in curriculum alignment, PKL implementation, and competency development based on current industry needs.
