Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Dalam Pengelolaan Lingkungan Berbasis Partisipatif

Abstract

Sustainable environmental management requires the active involvement of communities as key stakeholders in preserving environmental quality. However, limited public awareness regarding waste management, environmental sanitation, and environmental conservation remains a major challenge in many regions. This Community Service Program (PkM) aimed to enhance community knowledge, skills, and participation in environmental management through a participatory approach. The program employed the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method, which consisted of problem identification, counseling, training, mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation stages. The target participants were members of Village Wea-Wea, including village officials, women's organizations (PKK), youth organizations (Karang Taruna), community leaders, and local residents. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants' knowledge of waste management, the implementation of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R) principles, environmental sanitation, and environmental conservation practices. Community participation also increased through active involvement in community clean-up activities, the establishment of environmental care groups, and the preparation of sustainable environmental action plans. The participatory approach proved effective in strengthening community awareness, improving local capacity, and fostering collaboration among the community, village government, and higher education institutions. This program is expected to serve as a replicable model for community empowerment in promoting sustainable environmental management in other regions.
