Sunan Kalijaga is one of the Wali Songo figures who occupies an important position in the collective memory of Javanese Muslim communities. Narratives of his preaching through the arts, wayang performances, the song Lir-Ilir, and various legends associating him with the development of Islam in Java have been transmitted through chronicles, oral traditions, and Islamic educational literature. However, these representations do not always clearly distinguish historical information, cultural interpretation, and legendary elements. This study aims to analyze the representation of Sunan Kalijaga in Islamic educational literature, identify the relationship between historical narratives and legends, and explain the implications for Islamic history education. It employs a qualitative library research approach. Data are collected through an examination of scholarly journal articles, studies of Islamic historiography, and research on Sunan Kalijaga’s traditions and thought. The analysis involves thematic identification, narrative comparison, contextual assessment of sources, and critical interpretation of the construction of the figure. The review indicates that Sunan Kalijaga’s representation emerges from the interaction of historical memory, hagiographic traditions, and the transmission of religious values. Legends contribute to moral exemplarity and cultural identity, but they cannot automatically be treated as historical evidence. Islamic educational literature should therefore combine respect for cultural traditions with source criticism, enabling learners to understand the educational value of narratives while distinguishing historical evidence, interpretation, and legend.
